CIAA Black Mermaids and Hans Christian Andersen’s Granddaughter Meet at ‘The Little Mermaid’ Movie Screening

At the recent screening of 'The Little Mermaid' movie, an enchanting trilogy of creativity took place, combining a movie, a book, and a song: the CIAA Black Mermaids and the granddaughter of Hans Christian Andersen, the iconic original author, came together to celebrate this time-honored tale. The event, a magical experience hosted by RoyalTy iS Black, LLC in partnership with Towson Black Alumni Alliance, was aimed at enchanting potential future Tigers.

The Black Mermaids' children’s book 'Topaz's First Integration' is more than a literary journey, it serves as a powerful tool for instilling self-esteem in young Black girls, specifically within the age group of 0 to 6 years. Crafted with vibrant art and academia, the book illuminates how children can navigate new environments, drawing on the real-life experiences of co-author and education consultant, Dr. Jaky B.

It was an extraordinary surreal experience to meet and engage in conversation with the ancestor of the author of the Little Mermaid story.
— Dr. Jaky B.

Ms. Kendra Banks, co-author of the book The Black Mermaid Topaz’s First Integration and the singer-songwriter on the children’s song Flow Those ABC’s had this to say:

Look how the universe brought us together. Our Black Mermaids meet the living essence, the direct descendant of the creator of the movie title and storyline
— Ms. Kendra Banks

All proceeds from the book and its accompanying song contribute to the educational channel www.theBlackMermaids.com, offering a treasure trove of free resources aimed at bolstering the self-esteem of Black girls. It's a noble cause well worth supporting.

FEATURED Track

Accompanying the book release, the official track 'Flow Those ABC’s' by The Black Mermaids is making waves. 'Flow Those ABC’s', Baltimore Club music version, was produced by Baltimore’s own Grammy award-winning Mighty Mark and written by singer/songwriter Kendra Banks, cheer camp director and creator.

Mighty Mark is known for his co-writing work on projects like the 2021 Columbia Records Platinum hit ‘Have Mercy’ by Chole Bailey, who was signed by Beyoncé to Empire Records, and Iggy Azalea's ‘Woke Up’.

The song makes a connection between academic achievement and career goals, expressing a love of Baltimore Club Music. The voices of students of the Baltimore City Public School System are also featured prominently within the song.

Products have been created as fundraising tools, featuring unique Baltimore City sayings, keeping resources free to encourage a love of learning and a love of self.

This song mix is an Ode to Baltimore. I’m using Baltimore Club Music beats by Mighty Mark, mixing and production by Ryan ‘TopSecret’ Anderson who has worked with artists like Rihanna and also of Baltimore, the beautiful, innocent yet determined voices of Baltimore City Public School System students, with lyrics and composition by me, a Morgan State University graduate, now 19-year resident of Baltimore. All Baltimore!
— Kendra Banks

With a duration of about two and a half minutes and a tempo of 138 bpm, the track begins with a twenty-six-second intro, setting an upbeat and lively tone.

The melodic piano and rhythmic beat create a perfect platform for the vocals, their emotive vocal color in harmonious sync with the uplifting vibe of the instrumentation. The multiple layers of backing vocals add a rich depth, complimenting the lyrical content without overshadowing the lead vocal line.

Reinterpreting the classic children’s ABC's track with playful lyrical variations, 'Flow Those ABC’s' offers an engaging musical experience from start to finish. By its conclusion, children will be hooked on its catchy melody, eager to hit replay for another delightful listen.

With its polished production, imaginative instrumentation, and authentic vocal performance, 'Flow Those ABC’s' is sure to enchant its young audience. Be sure to visit The Black Mermaids’ official website and explore their online store for more!
