Funk Meets Reflection on The Heard Eye’s New Single

The Heard Eye continue to refine their signature sound with a smooth, message-driven release that resonates

ABOUT THE ARTIST

The Heard Eye is a groove-forward funk-rock collective based in California’s North Bay, founded by trumpeter and vocalist Paul Schneider and guitarist Hannes De Kassian. Their sound took shape on stages across Sonoma and Marin Counties, where their blend of jazz, funk, and improvisation lit up intimate venues and built a loyal following. What began as a duo project in 2018 evolved into something more ambitious following a creative reconnection with internationally known drummer Atma Anur during the 2020 lockdown.

With Anur contributing drums from Europe, and a steady flow of new material in hand, the trio began recording remotely, inviting a cast of talented collaborators to round out the sessions. The result was Funkalypse, a genre-blending debut album released in 2023 that balances live energy with tight production and sharp musicianship. It marked a turning point for Schneider and De Kassian, whose songwriting found a new sense of urgency and polish.

As they moved from studio project to fully-formed live band, The Heard Eye welcomed keyboardist and vocalist Chris Studer, bassist Greg Dunn, and drummer Peter Ffrench into the fold. The current lineup has brought their sound to a new level, earning praise for its vocal harmonies, tight rhythms, and infectious stage presence. With new recordings underway, The Heard Eye is quickly establishing itself as one of Northern California’s most exciting emerging acts.
