ABOUT THE ARTIST

Joe Wilkinson writes songs that feel lived-in. Now based in Los Angeles, his journey began in Poughkeepsie, New York, before moving through the folk and Americana circles of New York City. His sound is rooted in traditional American songwriting, marked by honest lyricism, strong melodies, and a quiet confidence that never reaches for more than it needs to say.

His career includes time on the road with Neal Casal, with European tours in 1998 and 2000 that helped shape his approach to performance and collaboration. Today, Wilkinson records with a seasoned group of musicians including Leland Sklar on bass, John Ginty on keys, Buck Reid on pedal steel, and Fredo Ortiz on drums. The ensemble gives his songs the space and texture they deserve, adding depth without distraction.

Wilkinson’s recent work reflects the long arc of his personal and musical life. The writing is clear-eyed, emotional, and deeply connected to everyday moments. Whether playing solo or with his band, he draws listeners in through understatement and presence, leaving an impression that lasts well beyond the final note.

FEATURED RELEASE

Fences, the new album by Joe Wilkinson, is out June 10. The ten-track collection was produced by Steve Watson and recorded at Watson House Studios, bringing together a seasoned band that includes Leland Sklar on bass, John Ginty on keyboards, Fredo Ortiz on drums, Buck Reid on pedal steel, and Watson himself contributing string arrangements. The result is a warm, understated record that lets the songwriting take centre stage.

The album opens with “Travelin’ On,” a track that sets the tone with its easy confidence and sharp guitar work. From there, Wilkinson leans into different moods without losing cohesion. “Fences” delivers a strong melodic hook and a laid-back groove, while “Sometimes We Need Love” stretches into more reflective territory, shaped by layered harmonies and subtle dynamics. “Last Breath of Life” closes the album with clarity and restraint, offering one of Wilkinson’s most honest vocal performances.

With its clean production, thoughtful arrangements, and unforced emotional pull, Fences is a clear statement from an artist who knows exactly what he wants to say. It’s a record made for quiet drives, late evenings, and anyone who still believes in the power of a well-written song.
