ABOUT THE ARTIST
Vivian is a Colorado dream-pop duo consisting of Alana Rolfe and Tim Massa. Their debut album ‘The Warped Glimmer’ is out now.
The formation of the group followed the initial electronic workings of Massa which he published on SoundCloud. Rolfe then offered the addition of her lyrics and vocals. Having previously worked together in the virtuosic gypsy rock band Stella Luce, the couple synchronised their creative talents to form the new electronica project Vivian.
Set to move to Wyoming and quit music, Rolfe inevitably decided to leave her former relationship and continue making music with Massa. The duo eventually moved in together shortly before the global pandemic lockdown with their newly found love, coupled with their creative talents, allowing for the development of copious amounts of original music.

The duo’s goal is to create a dream pop album which has an “atmospheric ascension” that allows each listener to “experience, and dream, as they see fit”.

‘The Warped Glimmer’ is an eleven track album that was released on the 19th of May 2020. Our featured single ‘The Warped Glimmer’ is track three on the album.
The single starts with a deep 6/8 melody that gradually incorporates piano before the lead vocal line commences at the 0:29 mark. Sitting prominently on-top of the mix, the clean vocal color of Rolfe is both effortless and emotive, complimenting the ominous tone of the track.
A cymbal at 0:59 instigates a shift in the tempo of the vocal line that is coupled with effected, panned instrumentation that inevitably leads to a partial break down before the main drop at 1:18. The track then shifts significantly with an effected percussive line echoing into the distance whilst a layered vocal harmony combines with the plethora of instrumentation, creating an intense melodic flow.
Continuing to maintain a sense of unpredictability, a heavily distorted guitar is later added, along with a full instrumental section lasting from 3:23 until the end of the track.
