ABOUT THE ARTIST
Takeshi's Cashew is an up and coming five piece band that burst onto the music scene in 2020. The band name was derived from the television show Takeshi's Castle, where all five band members reached the shows finale. Having formed a friendship on the show, the band began working on finding their sound; amalgamating stylistic elements from “Funk, Disco, Cumbia and sixties/seventies psychedelia with a collection of ethnic instruments…creating a danceable and beautiful fusion”.
After finally getting the opportunity to perform their first concert at the beginning of 2020, the band were forced to postpone their upcoming performances due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resultantly, spent the time in isolation working on their songs individually.
During that time, Takeshi's Cashew produced seven tracks that will be released as their debut album later this year. All recording was carried out at the Cashew’s home studio in Vienna. Although just three of the seven tracks have been made available in the band’s online discography, they have already cultivated a dedicated following of loyal fans.
Sterndüne lasts seven minutes and twenty-eight seconds and sits at 93bpm. Although the single was released in August of this year, it has already amassed almost twenty-thousand streams on Spotify alone and sits as the band’s second most popular single to date.
The track commences with an introductory section that lasts around forty-six seconds and consists of a combination of ambient wind and string instrumentation, with subtle percussion that gradually creates a crescendo effect; setting the tone for the proceeding section. The main beat kicks in at the 0:47 mark and resultantly drives the rhythmic intensity of the single. Various instances of melodic imitation occurs throughout the piece between the instrumental groups; providing a rich sounding depth to the almost cinematic feel. The main beat drops out in at around the 6:30 mark and allows the wind instrumentation to take a more prominent position in the mix. This stylistic shift seamlessly transitions the track into the diminuendo-styled outro.
Akihi lasts five minutes and thirty-nine seconds and sits at 94bpm. The single is the most popular track so far from the band’s three releases; gathering an impressive forty-two thousand streams on Spotify alone.
The single commences with a twenty second introductory section that combines a subtle foundational percussion and a plethora of spacious eclectic layers that set the uplifting tone for the single. The first melodic hook line kicks in at the 0:21 mark and provides a platform for additional layers of instrumentation to instigate; including full percussion, flute, and guitar. Just when you think that you have figured out the flow of this piece, the rhythmic and melody dramatically shift at 3:22. A powerful saxophone solo dominates the mix and provides the perfect amount of stylistic diversification to ensure that this track is engaging from start to finish.
There Is No Harmony lasts ten minutes and sits at 100bpm. The single has already gathered almost four thousand streams on Spotify alone, with an additional two and a half thousand views on the official audio music video.
The single commences with a forty-five second introductory section that utilises an ominous layering of eclectic instrumental elements to set the tone for the track. The beat kicks in at around the 0:46 mark and provides a foundational rhythm for the additional instrumental elements to build upon. From the dark tone and variety of creative melodic lead breaks, to the steady percussive flow, this track will send the listener into a trance like auditory experience that will make the ten minute piece seem like no time at all.
Fans of Takeshi´s Cashew, as well as those who appreciate new and creative music, will definitely want to hear all three singles. Make sure you follow Takeshi´s Cashew on social media to keep up to date with upcoming releases and performances!
