ABOUT THE ARTIST 

Up and coming Hip-hop/Rap artist Taj is relatively new to the scene but has already began to amass quite the following. First utilising SoundCloud as his main source for original music distribution, Taj has uploaded twelve tracks over the past year alone. To date, he has accumulated over twelve-thousand plays on SoundCloud and a growing following on Instagram of almost three-thousand. 

His first music video, released in March of 2018, was a collaboration with Special K and Lil Trea of I.M.O.B with the track ‘Where Were You At’. Directed by Ghetto Geeks and produced by Taj, the video achieved over five and a half thousand views with no prior uploads. Since then, Taj has continued to develop his YouTube following with his channel achieving over eighteen-thousand views to date. 

Taj’s previous releases on SoundCloud include a diverse plethora of collaborations and featured artists including Nick James, Eyeball Relly, Shinobi, Lil Tre and Chris Streetz.

Since his last upload nine months ago, Taj has released his first official single that is available on iTunes and Spotify: ‘Big Steppa’. His second release, ‘I Love It’, is scheduled to be available on the 24th of April 2020 and features a collaboration with Shinobi. 

FEATURED RELEASE

Our featured single ‘Big Steppa’ sits on a steady 92bpm percussive beat and features a variety of panned electric piano, gently distorted electric riffs, clean piano and a synth-like sub-bass that acts as a foundational layer to the track. The single essentially follows a freestyle rap by Taj that is the main feature. The lyrical content follows Taj as he reflects on his pursuit of success with “I’m a big steppa…they know I’m a go getter” referring to Taj’s mentality of continually moving forward with his career as a hip-hop/rap artist and entrepreneur. 

Taj uses “I’m playing chess not checkers” as a clever metaphor for his approach to business, knowing that making it in the music industry almost always attracts individuals who will oppose an artist, “they lookin for any reason to hate my guts”. It’s clear that although Taj is aware of how to avoid the negativity that may come his way, he also recognises that the path ahead for him as an artist will be one within which he must rely on those within his inner circle as he can see that not all newly formed relationships are trustworthy:  “In this business it’s hard to know who I can trust now”.
