ABOUT THE BAND

Radio Mafia are a five piece band from Dublin/Louth consisting of Matthew O'Kane (lead vocals), Ciaran O'Brien (bass/vocals), Ciaran Brady (lead guitar), David Burke (keyboard/second guitar) and Ryan Girvin (drums/vocals). The band have already developed an impressive discography consisting of 2019’s single releases ‘Don’t Think About It’ and ‘B.R.S’, 2019’s four track EP release ‘Don’t Think About It’, and their latest 2020 single ‘Preacher’. Radio Mafia’s highly anticipated debut album, ‘Can Anybody Hear Me’, will be released soon and is quoted to have everything from “swing to punk…funk to grunge”.

Although the band have only began building their online following on Spotify in 2019, they have already amassed over thirty-six thousand total streams, over five and a half thousand followers and over two and a half thousand monthly listeners. If this is anything to go by, their upcoming album is on track to be a success.

‘Preacher’ begins with a rhythmic solo-percussive section that utilises a spacious reverb, immediately creating a sense of ambient space for the instrumentation to follow. Around nine seconds in, the drum section is met by keys and bass that add to the upbeat rhythmic style of the track with the complimentary timing of each element of instrumentation. The vocal-line begins at the 0:19 mark with a clean vocal colour that has split panned effects layered to provide a depth that gives the track a truly unique quality.

At 0:39, the chorus kicks-in with a plethora of layered vocals that creates an anthem-like sound that is full, yet holds the melodic tone of the track. The addition of electric guitar within this section creates a notable differentiation from the other sections and helps to drive the intensity.

The vocal color of the chorus shifts significantly, with a grittier rock tone becoming the style which captures the intensity of the lyrics. A point of unique creative flair can be found between 1:53 and 2:13 when the track breaks down into an instrumental section that incorporates a variety of impressive expressions of musical talent whilst also maintaining the synchronicity of the song’s flow as a composition.
