FEATURED RELEASE
The upcoming single, ‘Ground Up’ by Rachel Barror, is available to stream on SoundCloud now! When asked about the meaning behind her latest single, Rachel had this to say:
“[Ground Up] reflects all the mixed emotions I’ve been experiencing during this time. Speaking with my friends I’ve found that even though we’ve all had different experiences, the feelings are pretty much the same. To me it really just emphasises that we’re all on this road together and even though we may feel lonely we’re definitely not alone. By speaking up about it and reaching out to others for help can only strengthen us.”
The single sits in at around a smooth 81bpm and commences with a five second solo piano introduction. Rachel's vocal color is relaxed and emotive, matching the melodic flow of the instrumentation. At the 0:29 mark, a very subtle percussive beat is added alongside a more prominent bass. Additional vocal lines are layered to create a full harmonised sound that provides the perfect amount of stylistic diversification from the verse.
The repeated lyrical phrase “From the ground up”, finds a way to embed itself within the subconscious of the listener, with the memorable melody synchronistically matching the phrasing. A gradual diminuendo-styled outro sees various layers of instrumentation drop out, leaving Rachel’s powerful vocal performance in the prominent position, alongside gentle piano.
