LATEST RELEASE
‘Running from the Ambulance’, is OUT NOW and available to purchase on BandCamp! The first track on the EP, ‘Down On The Scene’, sits at a smooth 137bpm and consists of a steady percussive kick/high-hat/snare drum line that provides a consistent foundation for the melody. A spoken vocal sample drops in systematically throughout the track, creating tension and matching the tone of the single. An effected guitar, coupled with a powerful bass and panned synth create an atmospheric vibe.
‘Time to Ride’ sits at 98bpm, utilising a treble dominant effected beat, a strong sub-bass fills in the gaps with individual notation. Various sporadic vocal and instrumental samples threaded throughout the track amalgamate to form a uniquely creative electronic single. Coming in at 170bpm, ‘How The West Was Lost’ has an intense beat from the beginning of the track. With an initial percussive crescendo coupled with a spacious reverb, an echoed vocal sample synchronises with the rhythm, fading into the distance before a siren sound and a strong sub-bass are added. Reverberated instrumentation add to the mysterious tone of this fast paced track, creating an epically atmospheric intensity.
‘The Gunman’ begins with a high pitched note that makes way for the vocal line “The Gunman” to enter and echo into the distance. A treble dominant acoustic chord progression is then added, with the gradual addition of various instrumentation lines that include a flaring flute riff, prominent bass and additional vocal samples. ‘Bad Boys’ commences with the sound of a gun loading, setting the theme of the track, followed by a combination of panned sounds that include effected percussion, flute, sirens and a strong bass. The vocal line, “Ok be a bad boy” repeats throughout and uses a combination of reverb and delay to add fullness.
‘The Wild Wild West’ sits at around 87bpm. The effected drum line that instigates the instrumentation drops out momentarily, allowing the vocal sample to create a partial drop that is followed by a combination of effected electric guitar, bass and percussion. The instrumentation systematically drops to allow the repetition of the vocal sample, inevitably invoking a resultant intensity that comes with the full instigation of the music. ‘Framed’ sets the theme in motion almost immediately with the vocal line “I’ve been framed”, followed by “All right, come with me”. A western style guitar line is matched by a very distant guitar riff that can be heard underneath the plethora of electronic elements. Although there are many components to this track, each has its own prominent timing with clever production providing spacious layering.
Fans of electronic music with an artistic flare will want to check out this EP. With six releases within the first half of 2020 alone, it’s fair to say that Picker Man is only beginning to develop his compositional journey with this level of momentum.
