FEATURED RELEASE
Our featured single, ‘When You Were the Apple’ by Phoebe O'Grady, is to be released on the seventh of August and will be available to stream on all major streaming platforms! The single sits at a steady 130bpm and commences with a bass/piano combination that provides a platform for Phoebe’s vocal-line. Subtle strings are added to break up the initial verses whilst avoiding any detraction from the stripped back style. Phoebe’s vocal color is clean and effortless; perfectly matching the melodic flow of the single.
Percussion is added at the 0:29 mark and resultantly denotes a rhythmic shift that increases the intensity of the track. A panned string section is systematically amalgamated with the percussion to create a partial crescendo as the single builds towards the main hook. Additional backup vocals are layered in the mix, check out 0:59 to 1:11; creating a subtle depth to the main vocal line that compliments the melody.
A point of creative flare can be found from 1:29 to 1:58 when an instrumental section allows for melodic diversification that keeps the track engaging from start to finish. This section incorporates additional vocalisations that lead to the controversial, yet expressive repeated phrase “fuck you”. With lyrical content that includes lines like “did you ever love me?”, it’s fair to say that Phoebe writes from a place of authenticity that encapsulates her personality as a songwriter.
From the stylistic vocal performance and memorable melodic hook, to the well produced instrumentation, fans of Phoebe O'Grady, as well as those who appreciate new and creative music, will definitely want to hear this debut single.
