ABOUT THE BAND
Peace Spirits have officially released their first single ‘OH GOD’ as of the 7th of April this year. The Canadian musical group were originally formed by singer-songwriter Kyla Lynn Vezina and drummer/engineer/producer John Lovaghy. The group are currently in the process of producing their first album which is set to be called ‘A Spiritual Tour’.
The band has a plethora of experienced musicians including Yves Frulla (piano, keyboards, arrangement) and André Coutu (guitarist), who have both worked with the world-famous Céline Dion. Proclaimed as the group’s “solid driving force”, Laszlo Koós is their featured bassist with John Lovaghy on drums as well as providing backing vocals.

The single sits at a smooth 75bpm and begins with a short instrumental before the gentle vocal color of Kyla Lynn Vezina leads the track into the first verse. About half way through the same verse, layered backing vocals add an overtly ominous tone to the ballad. Lines such as, “Oh God if you’re listening, help us to believe”, reveals to the listener that the emotive intent that has inspired this track, comes from a place of uncertainty during these difficult times when the world faces a global pandemic. A desire for the maintenance of belief is still evident throughout, “help us keep the faith as we are drowning in disease”.
The main percussion instigates at around the 0:33 mark, driving the intensity of the track as various additional instrumental elements are utilised to create an auditory intensity that builds on the emotion of the lyrical message, “As we all want to be stronger, as we all want to be free”. Panned electric guitar riffs with ambient piano/keys add a creative diversity that elevates the track’s musicality. A melodic shift at the 2:04 mark sets up an epic lead break that utilises backing vocals to keep the track’s intensity, whilst also allowing the effected electric to have its moment in the spotlight.
