ABOUT THE ARTIST

MIMI & The Nates is an up and coming artist whose debut single will drop this coming February. Growing up in a family of ten, MIMI used music as a means of “escaping the chaos”. This natural interest in music grew as she performed at karaoke venues in the six cities she lived in throughout her youth.

In 2018, MIMI joined a “twenty year running band” and toured with them around the world for one year. After she finished touring, MIMI felt that she had gained enough experience in the music industry to then move to Nashville and begin her own journey as an artist by forming her band.

The Nates refers to “family, fathers, female powerhouses, mentors, investors, hemp-y folks, producers, bandmates, co-writers, girlfriends, homies, muses and everyone else who vibes with [MIMI]”. Although she draws creative inspiration from genres such as Pop, R&B, EDM, smooth jazz, and modern country, MIMI combines a variety of stylistic elements to form her unique and authentic sound. Now that MIMI has established her style, her desire to evolve as an artist has pushed her to use her influence as an artist to advocate for “cannabis, conscious relationships and personal development”.

Our featured single, ‘Maybe If Only’ by MIMI & The Nates, is to be released on the 14th of February and will be available to stream on all major streaming platforms! MIMI & The Nates’ debut single was written about:

“...the feeling of disappointment when it comes dating and wishing for the kinda love that doesn’t complicate things”

Although the song is still in the process of completion, we were given the opportunity to preview the demo for ‘Maybe If Only’. The demo-track lasts around three minutes and thirty-seven seconds and sits at a steady 84bpm.

MIMI’s vocal color is clean and emotive; seamlessly synchronising with the smooth flow of the instrumental accompaniment. The addition of a subtle second vocal layer delivers just the right amount of depth to the overall sound without detracting from the prominence of the main vocal. The percussion controls the steady rhythm of the instrumentation with a catchy acoustic guitar progression providing the perfect platform for the main hook.

A melodic shift for the bridge section kicks in around two-thirds of the way through the track; creating a sense of dynamic diversity and ensuring that this single is engaging from start to finish. If the impressive demo for this upcoming single is anything to go by, you’ll find yourself humming along with the memorable melody and in need of hitting that repeat button for another listen.
