ABOUT THE ARTIST

K I off the book are a guitar and drum duo; Peter Kocso on guitar and Illes Ispanovits on drums. With a common childhood and a love for music uniting the two “old friends”, Peter and Illes decided to break the conventional music/band rules and form a duo. Peter utilises and adapts his classical guitar training for the band’s songwriting and Illes’ contributes his “autodidact drum skills”. Although the two band members live not only in different countries, but on different continents, they continue to work together through each step of the compositional process.

The band’s main goal is to share their music with as many people as possible; attempting to give the listener the “flow feeling” that K I off the book experience when they play their original music. From a compositional perspective, the band have amalgamated classical guitar, drums and a string ensemble to create a sound that is undeniably unique to K I off the book. The structure of their compositional work abstains from the traditional intro/verse/chorus pattern and embraces a more stylistic approach; collating each track as a continuous piece that follows its individual flow.

Our featured EP, ‘EP I.’ by K I off the book, is OUT on the first of July and will be available to stream on all major streaming platforms! This debut EP from the band lasts over twenty minutes and is comprised of three tracks: ‘170_4’, ‘160’ and ‘132’.

K I off the book plan to release one new track this year, a debut album with bonus tracks, and one exclusive album that will feature a special orchestration. Having worked on their music for the past number of years, K I off the book are now ready to begin releasing their material to the world.

‘170_4’ sits at a fast paced 170bpm and amalgamates a plethora of neoclassical and world music layers to create an intense and creative piece. A stylistic shift in the tempo around the 5:01 mark takes the melodic flow of the track in a completely different direction, adding a creative flare to the work. ‘160’ commences with a repeated, classical guitar riff that is met by a creative percussive section and strong strings. With various dark transitions and moments of intentional dissonance, this track grips the listener’s attention from start to finish. ‘132’ favours a more string based compositional style, with the foundational percussive section driving the melodic flow throughout the track whilst allowing for stylistic diversity.

The band plan to progress their style to incorporate a “more atmospheric mood” with additional layers of instrumentation, a “lower tempo and more clarity”. Although K I off the book are a duo, they are in the process of sending their music notation to the local support chamber orchestra who they meet in a few days to prepare for their live performances. Fans of K I off the book, as well as those who appreciate new and creative compositional music, will definitely want to hear this EP.
