ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jae’Morrissa, otherwise known as Ingrid Jasmin, began her music career in the most unlikely of ways. Working as a traveling nurse all across the United States, her passion for caring for others led her to utilise her singing talent to comfort patients. Known as ‘the singing nurse’, a few years ago, a co-worker filmed her doing what she does best, singing a parting song to her patients before leaving work for the day. Without Jasmin’s knowledge, her friend posted the video on social media which inevitably sparked a new path for her in the music industry.

“Seeing all those comments and compliments from people really woke me up to realize this is what I’m supposed to be doing. It reminded me who I am and who I’m supposed to be.

Since then, Jasmin has dedicated herself to pursuing a career as a singer and recording artist. Adopting the stage name ‘Jae’Morrissa’, Jasmin has honed her own unique style that incorporates an amalgamation of Pop and R&B whilst also showing stylistic hints of artists that have been an inspiration to her including: Deniece Williams, Teena Marie, Stephanie Mills and Phyllis Hyman.

Her first single ‘Just My Next Song’ was an upbeat Pop/R&B track that mentions various “old-school” songs and artists that inspired her over the years. The track was even considered as a Grammy Nominee for The 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020 and was on the charts for many weeks after its release.

The inspiration behind the track came from Jasmin’s experience dealing with a break-up that eventually led her to come to the realisation that she had no regrets and that her ex was “just [her] next song”. When asked about where her passion is derived from, Jasmin stated that she wants her “music to touch other souls and help people to know they aren’t alone”.

When we asked Jae’Morrissa where the inspiration came from for her new single release ‘Butterfly’ she had this to say:

“Butterflies are first crawling caterpillars before they blossom into such beautiful, loving and free creatures. Butterflies are colourful, free-spirited creatures that represent power, beauty and the freedom of love. This is a song representing empowerment, life, love and freedom! Once a cocoon dealing with life’s ups and downs has now blossomed into a very beautiful butterfly that lives each day to the fullest! This butterfly is now living its best life soaring even higher than before. ”

It is clear that Jae’Morrissa is truly embracing her personal evolution as an artist with this track continuing her story as she develops as an up and coming singer/songwriter. Stylistically, the track utilises various layered vocal melodies that perfectly compliment her soulful lead vocal throughout the chorus.

The rhythmic beat provides a steady foundation that gently drives the track throughout. “I’m a butterfly, watch me glide into the sky” is a metaphorical representation of her personal journey as an artist as she fully embraces her transformation from her previous life working as a traveling nurse, singing to those in-need, to writing and performing her own music of inspiration. A “powerful mix of inspiring, poetic lyrics and groovy, soulful R&B with elements of Pop and Jazz”, this track is the perfect follow-up release to ‘Just My Next Song’.
