ABOUT THE ARTIST
Going to the Sun are a Minneapolis based band made up of five members: David Young on vocals/guitar, Zach Young on drums/vocals, Ben Kelly on bass/vocals, Charlie Peterson on keys/vocals and Stefan Van Voorst on guitar.
Going to the Sun’s discography includes 2014’s self-titled debut album ‘Going to the Sun’, and two singles released in 2020: ‘Broken, Still Beating’ and ‘Hopeful Song’. Their debut album instigated the band’s initial momentum, gaining new fans whilst also receiving positive press from the likes of The Current (89.3) for being “one of the top local releases of 2014”.

The new album, ‘Love Letters from the Western Gate’ by Going to the Sun, is OUT NOW and available to stream on all major platforms! This forty-one minute album consists of ten diverse tracks that capture the band’s sound perfectly.
The first single from the album, ‘Hopeful’, sits in at around a steady 107bpm and begins with a thirteen second instrumental introduction, held predominantly by the acoustic guitar. The vocal color used is initially soft and emotive, yet as the song progresses, a more powerful tone is implemented to drive the chorus (see 0:52). A clean percussion section is steady throughout, with a slight break for the initial section of the verse.
The overall mix is well balanced with each element of instrumentation piercing through, whilst also amalgamating together to form Going to the Sun’s unique sound. The layered background vocals, that are dropped in systematically throughout the track, provide a positive crescendo of intensity that makes the chorus all the more memorable.
From the upbeat electric riffs in ‘Music for a Party’, the ambient intensity of ‘Dark Before the Dawn’, the western whistling riffs of ‘Rodeo’, to the emotive slow rock breakdowns in ‘What Would I Say’, this album has a plethora of diverse tracks that represent Going to the Sun's sound seamlessly.
