ABOUT THE BAND
Deep Cinappa (lead singer) began his music career in South India by way of performing covers before moving to Boston in the 90s to front goth metal band Sift. Recording two albums and performing at the well known venue CBGB in New York and Mama Kin in Boston, Deep inevitably developed his talent and became a self-taught guitar player in 1999; enabling his songwriting career to commence. Blending genres of rock, funk, reggae and jazz, Deep showed a creative ability to comprise a unique and original sound. With a long career in social work, Deep draws upon his experiences assisting youth with and without disabilities, helping them to discover their potential whilst also pursuing his own career in music. As well as being the voice behind Deep C Divers, Deep has recorded three solo albums.
Paul Erlich (lead guitar, keyboardist) has performed and recorded individually as well as in collaboration with acts including Alien Skin, Board of Education, Copal, Form of Funk, Four Elements, Katrin Roush, Kevin So, Stretch, and Deep Chinappa. With a natural talent for improvisation, Paul draws inspiration from the classical music of his youth, along with The Beatles and classic rock tracks. His natural ear for music and diverse background in differing genres is a key component to the composition of the Deep C Divers’ new single release.
Gregg Marcus (bass) is considered to be the organising force behind Deep C Divers. His foundational bass lines and high level live performance are vital to the structural integrity of the band and give each track a depth that is integral. With a specific talent for sound engineering, Gregg built his own bass amp whilst also creating a studio recording rig for the band. This level of commitment coupled with his musical talent makes Gregg a foundational member of Deep C Divers.
John Bordage (drums) has over thirty years experience as a drummer after he began his career in the 80s when he moved to San Diego. Playing with a number of different bands, John gained experience in alternative rock, surf, classic rock as well as folk/blues roots music. Moving to Boston in 2012, Paul played in the folk-rock group The Grass Gypsies before joining Deep C Divers where his plethora of drumming experience drives each of their tracks in perfect synchronicity with the band’s style.
The latest single release ‘Forgiveness’ from Deep C Divers begins with a gentle piano progression that is followed by clean vocals that invite the listener to engage with the lyrics as the story of the song unfolds. The melodic chord progression of the chorus is followed by a drum-fill that initiates the band’s instrumentation with a strong initial emphasis on the violin riff. Additional backing vocals create an atmospheric second chorus that compliments the instrumentation without detracting from the overall composition.
From 2:10 to 2:33, a lead break becomes the centre of attention as the clean electric solo captures the mood of the track perfectly, without dominating the composition. The single builds to a crescendo with the final chorus including a strong string section as well as additional lead riffs adding to the fulness of the overall sound. The outro reverts back to the beginning of the track with a gentle piano riff concluding the song. With each section of the piece evolving as the track progresses, this single is a joy to listen to from start to finish.
With tracks on over seventy stations nationwide and having music licensed by the Discovery Channel, A&E, E!, Nascar, MTV, and Netflix to name a few, it is certain that Deep C Divers are a band to look out for in 2020!
