FEATURED RELEASE

Our featured album, ‘Monsters’ by Carter Lagrant, is out on the seventeenth of July and will be available to stream on all major streaming platforms! The album lasts over twenty minutes and consists of seven tracks: ‘Get High’, ‘Imma Human’, ‘Lust’, Crowned Jester’, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, ‘Fat Cat (Do it right)’, and ‘Flattery Fake’.

Crowned Jester’ sits at a steady 180bpm and utilises a syncopated beat that creates a unique rhythmic pattern. Carter’s gentle vocal color, coupled with the prominent instrumentation, creates a tonal dissonance that forms an increasing intensity as the track progresses. ‘Lust’ sits at a smooth 90bpm and uses an effected piano as the main melodic hook, coupled with a foundational sub-bass and ambient percussion. The layered vocal line creates a sound that is eerie, yet perfectly in-line with the melodic flow.

Human’ sits at 85bpm and combines a steady beat with a foundational bass and a plucked melodic hook. A synth riff is added later in the track and utilises synchronised pans to create an engaging auditory experience. ‘Fat Cat’ embraces a more spoken-word based style that embraces various elements of instrumentation systematically dropping out; allowing the verse to take prominence in the mix. A melodic chorus utilises effected synth and layered effects to create a unique sound.

Fluttery’ uses ambient percussion, strong bass, strings and a subtle synth section to create a dark tone that matches Carter’s emotive vocal tone. Sweeping percussive sounds add depth and creativity to the track. ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ sits at a steady 120bpm and features an eclectic instrumental line-up. An ambient beat, synth and foundational bass carry the body of the track, with a woodwind section being later used for creative flare. ‘Get High’ is the final track on the album and lasts around two and a half minutes. A bass/beat combination sets the tone for Carter Lagrant’s vocal line that matches his dark vocal content. Switching between a whispered vocal and a more powerful tone at a higher register, Carter carefully follows the flow of the instrumentation.
