ABOUT THE ARTIST
Binary Drift, also known as Mauricio Yrivarren, is an up and coming artist who burst onto the streaming scene in 2019. The Lima (Peru) born songwriter honed his musical craft over the years whilst living in the United States, before moving to Madrid in 2010. After meeting Spanish producer Josemi Sánchez in 2017, Binary Drift worked as a session/live musician; working with the likes of Alejandro Sanz, Raphael and Miguel Rios.
“It had been ages since I had picked up a guitar and tried to write something, until one day I sat on my bed and the songs started to appear, almost by magic. Meeting Josemi and working with him on this record sure was the extension of that.”

Our featured single, ‘The Guilded Age’ by Binary Drift, is out now and available to stream on all major streaming platforms! The single is the eleventh track in the fourteen track album ‘Pocket Tunes’. ‘The Guilded Age’ lasts four minutes and twenty-nine seconds and sits at a steady 73bpm.
The title for Binary Drift’s latest album, ‘The Guilded Age’, is based on the late nineteenth century era: ‘the Gilded Age’, in the United States where a large economic growth occurred simultaneously to “abject poverty and inequality”. The ‘u’ was added by Binary Drift as a “joke mirroring Nirvana's spelling of nevermind, only to find out that 'guilded' is the old spelling”.
“[The Guilded Age] touches upon trying to find a balance in our lives, how not everything we see or aim for is that valuable...it describes how we ought to give ourselves the chance to move forward for the better.”
The track commences with a fifteen second instrumental introduction that features a smooth acoustic guitar progression which sets the tone for the proceeding verse. Binary Drift’s vocal color is clean and emotive; seamlessly synchronising with the flow of the instrumental accompaniment.
Additional vocal layers are added around the one minute mark and add a depth to the overall sound without detracting from the prominence of the main melody. Percussion and an ambient piano are systematically filtered into the track to provide just the right amount of dynamic diversity. By the time this single draws to a close, you’ll find yourself humming the memorable melodic hook and in need of another listen.
