ABOUT THE ARTIST

Because Villains is a “genre bending rock project” that is led by the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Travis James. Impressively, Travis is the contributor to all of the music composed, written and recorded by Because Villains. Given the incredibly impressive compositions that Travis is capable of producing, his performances vary from solo acoustic events to full band shows that include guest musicians. 

Travis has an impressive discography that includes a release under ‘Travis James’ titled ‘The Mental Notes’; a six track EP that received various critical acclaim at the time of its release as well as getting licensed to MTV and E TV Networks. The album charted top ten for airplay in the US College radio circuit.  

FEATURED RELEASE

Travis’ latest EP release is titled ‘Nesting Glitch Case’ and is comprised of three tracks: Goodbye, The Truth, I Got Your Number. Our featured track is the first single from the EP, ‘Goodbye’. Sitting in at around 125bpm, the upbeat rhythm of the single is instigated by an introductory kick, shortly met by a lead electric riff which precedes a full band instrumental section consisting of multiple panned electric riffs, strong percussion and a pumping bass line that creates a foundation for the instrumentation. 

A slight break down for the first chorus allows for Travis’ main vocal line to take precedent as the focal point of the track. Additional vocal harmony lines create a depth that makes this track feel like you are listening to a band of seasoned musicians rather than simply Travis’ compositional solo talent. The vocal color used throughout varies dependant on the section with the verses expressing a more gentle, emotive tone which contrasts with the chorus’ more intense rock style. Even with the utilisation of a more powerful vocal tone, Travis still manages to throw in an epic falsetto note during the line “It feels like goodbye”.
